Life didn’t come easy for Huey Futch. Once a high school basketball phenom from Miami, Huey grew up in a struggling neighborhood, lost his mother at a young age, and faced more setbacks than most kids could imagine. When a hurricane destroyed his home and his college dreams began to slip away, one man changed his life — legendary Temple University coach John Chaney.

Chaney didn’t just offer Huey a scholarship; he offered him guidance, discipline, and belief. Under his “tough love” mentorship, Huey learned lessons that went far beyond the basketball court — lessons about perseverance, integrity, and responsibility. Chaney’s door was always open, and his mission was clear: to help young men find strength in adversity and purpose in their potential.​
